How To Install os8 on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install os8 on Kali Linux.
What is os8
os8 is:
This package contains images of the OS8 operating system which are usable by a PDP-8 emulator.
The Debian simh package supplies a pdp8 emulator, but the file are in a standard format usable by any other pdp8 emulator such as Jones’s or Haygood’s emulator.
The os8 script will run the simh emulator with these images.
These images are not DFSG free because DEC prohibits commercial use of these images.
There are three methods to install os8 on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install os8 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install os8 using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install os8Install os8 Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install os8 using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install os8Install os8 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install os8 using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install os8How To Uninstall os8 on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the os8 package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove os8Uninstall os8 And Its Dependencies
To uninstall os8 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove os8Remove os8 Configurations and Data
To remove os8 configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge os8Remove os8 configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
