How To Install knot-host on Kali Linux
Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install knot-host on Kali Linux.
What is knot-host
knot-host is:
Knot DNS is a fast, authoritative only, high performance, feature full and open source name server.
Knot DNS is developed by CZ.NIC Labs, the R&D department of .CZ registry and hence is well suited to run anything from the root zone, the top-level domain, to many smaller standard domain names.
This package provides the ‘host’ program in the form that is bundled with the Knot DNS. The ‘host’ command is designed to be 1:1 compatible with BIND 9.x ‘host’ program.
There are three methods to install knot-host on Kali Linux. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install knot-host Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get updateAfter updating apt database, We can install knot-host using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install knot-hostInstall knot-host Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt updateAfter updating apt database, We can install knot-host using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install knot-hostInstall knot-host Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude on Kali Linux first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Kali Linux. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude updateAfter updating apt database, We can install knot-host using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install knot-hostHow To Uninstall knot-host on Kali Linux
To uninstall only the knot-host package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove knot-hostUninstall knot-host And Its Dependencies
To uninstall knot-host and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Kali Linux, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove knot-hostRemove knot-host Configurations and Data
To remove knot-host configuration and data from Kali Linux we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge knot-hostRemove knot-host configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove knot-host configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge knot-hostDependencies
